Franken Wein fine wines from the Franconia region of Bavaria.

The Franken wine area lies to the East of the big German wine producing areas of the Rhine, Moselle and Baden. Franken Wein is unknown in Great Britain, except to intrepid travellers to this rural and most beautiful part of Bavaria.

The wines I am starting to bring in to the UK are selected from my own travels in Bavaria, together with much
enjoyable tasting of these special wines. My friends in Bavaria increasing find the Franken wines have a special taste and bouquet all of their own. The developments and improvements of Franken wines are noticeable with the traditional Riesling and Sylvaner grapes being improved and an introduction of Pinot Noir type red wines and wines types normally found in such areas as Burgundy.

At the moment my list is only a small representation of the wines which I will eventually introduce into Great Britain. I am a retired engineer and you may have to be a little patient as I do not hold large stocks of wine yet.

I hope you enjoy looking through the wines I currently have available. If you want to discuss these any further,
please call me. I am not in the office all the time, but my colleagues at Horsehay can usually get hold of me.

The first and main wine on my list is a favourite in Bavaria.

Nordheimer Vögelein Dornfelder trocken. This is priced at £98.00 for 12 x 0.75litre bottles. These can be collected from Telford or Ludlow. UK delivery can also be arranged at additional cost.
The Dornfelder grape was introduced in Germany in 1979 to meet growing demand for sophisticated red wines which can be grown in a traditional white wine growing area. The dark skin of the Dornfelder grape give a good depth of colour to the wine, which also benefits from barrel aging.
The Nordheimer Dornfelder is a full flavour red wine but remains quite dry.

Nordheimer Vögelein Schwarzriesling trocken. This is priced at £98 for 12 x 0.75 litre bottles. These can be collected from Telford or Ludlow. UK delivery can also be arranged at additional cost.
Another grape recently introduced in the Franken region is the Schwarzriesling or black Riesling grape. This is the name given to the Pinot Meunier grape outside of France. It makes a simple dark red wine – also dry.

Nordheimer Kreuzberg Domina trocken. Supplied in the famous rounded “Bocksbeutel”, round and narrow -shaped bottles, this is priced at £120 for 12 x 0.75 litre bottles. These can be collected from Telford or Ludlow. UK delivery can also be arranged at additional cost.
Domina is a recently developed vine cross between Portugiese and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) and is specially grown in the Franken area. This top quality wine has a dark colour and is stored in oak casks “Barrique” to bring out rich aroma and flavour. A full-bodied red wine.

Nordheimer Vögelein Spätburgunder. Supplied in the famous rounded “Bocksbeutel”, round and narrow -shapedbottles, this is priced at £120 for 12 x 0.75 litre bottles. These can be collected from Telford or Ludlow. UK delivery can also be arranged at additional cost.
The Spätburgunder grape is better known to us as Pinot Noir. The popularity of this grape for fine light red wines is now legendary with most wine growing countries extending production of this excellent wine type. This is carefully produced in small quantities and the wine has nuances of blackberry.

The Franken area has long been famous for its traditional dry and slightly flinty Burgundy type white wines. Many are supplied in the exclusive “Bocksbeutel” bottles. The regions cold winter and hot summer weather conditions make it ideal growing country for Riesling, Sylvaner and Weisser Burgunder grape types. Substantial improvements in growing techniques and fermentation of these wines has taken place in recent years allowing the full potential of these fantastic grape types to be enjoyed to their fullest.

At present, I only have a limited number of these wines, which are available in small quantities:
Goldener Franken Schoppen. 0.75L – 11.5% vol. Supplied in the unique Bocksbeutel, this is a delicious dry white. Initial testing from local tasters gives this wine a high score. It is priced at £7.80 per bottle.

“Di Corpa” Weisser Burgunder Kabinett. 0.75L – 11% vol. Supplied in Bordeaux type bottles. Using carefully selected grapes where the yield per Hectare is reduced by half this give top quality full-bodied wine to the true German white wine taste. Price is £16.17 per bottle.

Sylvaner table wine 1L bottle is priced at £7.50. From the Franken Dettelbacher Berg area, this is a typical modern Franken wine. Although quite dry this wine drinks very well, maintaining the traditional excellence of the Sylvaner grape.

Riesling table wine 1L bottle is priced at £8.00. Typical German classy wine with slight trace of peach.

Currently I am looking at some Deutsche Sekt from Franconia as well as extending the limited range I have at present.
